Brake systems in EVs look similar to traditional gas vehicles in that there are rotors and disc pads. However, EVs use regenerative braking to capture energy used during braking and return it as a trickle charge to the battery pack. This means EVs use the brakes less often because the motor catching the energy (regenerative braking) slows the vehicle. The result of less braking is that it can cause more condensation buildup on the brakes, leading to corrosion or rust. EVs need a good cleaning, focusing on the back of the pads where there may be corrosion buildup, and an inspection of the adhesive on the back of the friction material is needed to catch breakdowns and ensure replacements before they become too degraded.

While this may seem like a lot of work, you can expect these services to be recommended about every 10,000 miles or just once a year, depending on the model.
